NC Zoo Wildlife Rehabilitation Internship
Primary Role:
Interns provide routine daily care for injured and orphaned native wildlife, until they are ready for release back into the wild, as well as care for the Zoo’s education animals. The intern’s duties include preparation of diets, cleaning cages, admitting patients, feeding animals, answering phones, scheduling, and record keeping. Interns will also have the opportunity to assist with medical tasks such as administering medications, physical therapy, assisting with radiographs and surgeries, as well as, perform treatments as ordered by Veterinary staff. In addition, interns may have the opportunity to participate in special projects, research, tours, training, cage building and animal rescues, as well as participating in our education animal programming. Interns may provide leadership to Volunteers in the absence of the wildlife center director. Internships are intended to provide experience and on the job training in basic rehab skills (not to teach veterinary medicine).

Jockey’s Ridge State Park Seasonal Postitions
Jockey’s Ridge State Park is currently accepting applications for 3 Full Time seasonal positions (9 month, 6 month & 3 month) for assistant park rangers. Housing may be available. Employees will be expected to give educational programs to the public and assist in daily park maintenance duties.
Description of Work
-Conduct 1-2 interpretive programs daily with children and adults
-Patrol park areas twice daily on ATV’s
-Provide visitor information and services
-Report any park violations to Park Ranger(s)
-Provide park maintenance duties as needed
-Participate in local agencies programs and in park training sessions.
-Prepare and research for assigned interpretive programs; develop a new program
outline
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
-Employee must possess the physical ability, and stamina to carry out park duties
-Employee must have a basic knowledge of coastal natural resources.
-Employee must have experience and/or be willing to engage in public speaking to
occasional large audiences.
-Employee should have experience working with the public in a service or
informational setting.
Experience and Qualifications
Minimum education requirements: High School Diploma. Preferably, employee will
possess a background in Biology, Zoology, Ecology, Natural Resource Management,
or related field. Prior work experience in outdoor education also a plus.
Positions Available
1 nine month position: March-Nov.
1 six month position: April-Sept
1 three month positions: June-August
40 hrs/week
Pay scale: $7.73/hr + housing
