The Global Perspectives Certificate (GPC) is an interdisciplinary, transcripted certificate that guides and recognizes students for their academic and co-curricular pursuit of developing global awareness. All undergraduate students are eligible to apply and participate in the GPC.
Certificate Requirements
- 1 International experience – this can include study abroad, alternative service break, international internships, overseas volunteer programs.
- 4 Classes with global focus within 3 thematic categories: 1) European and Eurasian studies; 2) African, Asian, and Latin American studies; and 3) Modern Global Issues. A list of pre-approved courses is available on our website here. Courses may simultaneously fulfill general education, major, or minor requirements.
- Foreign Language requirement – may be met in one of 3 ways: 1) having a foreign language major or minor, 2) equivalent of FL 201, or 3) at least 3 credit hours at any level of study in a new language
- 10 Hours Volunteer Service – Service activities must have an international focus, and may be carried out domestically or internationally
- 30 Hours or Points from Co-Curricular Activities – students must engage in outside of the classroom activities with an international focus. 1 hour is worth 1 point, with 10 points awarded for semester-long commitments, and up to 15 points for year-long activities.
- Final Project – Students will work under the mentorship of a faculty mentor to complete an essay (5 page min), Powerpoint presentation, physical display, or video depicting their GPC experience. After approval, some form of the project must be presented or made available to the public.
