The LAUNCH program begins today, Monday Sept. 22nd. We are partnering with the Colleges at  NC State to offer a professional development certificate to all undergraduate students who complete 6 sessions.  Sessions prepare students for career fairs, resumes, internships, job search, LinkedIn, Interviews and more.  Every session is Monday at 4:30 OR Thursday at 6pm.  Sessions are led by our Ambassadors and are fun and interactive with candy and prizes.

The NC State Career Development Center is hosting a Graduate Programs Fair
on Tuesday, October 7 from 6-8 p.m. at the McKimmon Center.

This event is free and open to the public. The McKimmon Center is located
at 1101 Gorman Street, Raleigh. Free parking is available on site.

Over 50 schools and programs will be there including NC State, East Carolina University, University of South Carolina, Campbell University, Duke University, Wake Forest University, Meredith College, and Appalachian State University.

On Thursday, August 28th, Ms. Lisa Mayorga, Program Manager for the Boren Scholarships and Fellowships Program will be leading an information session on Boren Scholarship and Fellowship Opportunities from5:30-6:30pm in Park Shops 210.

Boren Awards provide funding opportunities for U.S. students to become more proficient in the cultures and languages of world regions critical to U.S. interests, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. David L. Boren Scholarships (for undergraduate students) and Fellowships (for graduate students) provide American students awards for full academic year or semester programs abroad. Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics majors may also apply for summer programs of eight weeks or longer.

Who: US Citizen. Undergraduate and graduate students. Proposed program must include formal study of an appropriate foreign language. Freshmen through graduate students are eligible. All majors.

2. FLS 201-603 Spanish for Health Professions Online Course.

A course developed for those students interested in health professions.

Health specific vocabulary
Readings are taken from Spanish newspapers and websites
Service learning with the Latino community required.
Grammar instruction follows that of the 201 course so that students may continue with upper-level classes with no difficulty. Fulfills FLS 201 requirements.

We will need your student ID in order to enroll you and you will need to complete a Prerequisite Pledge.

Those students above the 201 level may audit the class.

Prerequisites: Having completed third semester Spanish at NCSU or at another college/university or having placed into 201 through a placement test.
Course feature: Online Spanish exam and certificate for health professions.

3. University Tutorial Services

This fall the University Tutorial Center (UTC) will provide free academic assistance to NC State students enrolled for credit in many high demand gateway courses.  The following assistance will be available:

• Two different tutoring by appointment programs* for most 100- and 200- level math, chemistry, and physics courses
• Supplemental Instruction (SI) for Chemistry 101, 201, 221 and PY 211
• Writing and Speaking services for both undergraduate and graduate students for assistance at any stage of the writing process

*Important information for the tutoring by appointment programs:

Attending an orientation is a requirement in the application process for students who have not attended one in a previous semester.  Students who are new to our program and interested in applying for a tutor by appointment should visit our website at http://tutorial.ncsu.edu to view our orientation schedule.  Students do not need to schedule an appointment for an orientation, although it is essential that they arrive on time to the large group meeting.  Students who arrive after the session has begun will not be admitted.  Orientation opportunities will begin on Monday, August 25th.

Students who have completed an orientation in a previous semester should submit an application online beginning Monday, August 25th.

The last day we will accept new applications for tutoring by appointment is October 8th (before Fall Break).  This mid-semester deadline is set to promote our tutoring philosophy that students meet with success by using tutorial services regularly throughout a semester as well as to preserve our limited tutoring by appointment resources for these students.
